GGUI 0.28 ships an MCP-native generative UI protocol and runtime

Released October 13, GGUI 0.28 ships 32 lockstep packages connecting UI generation, updates and user-event return through MCP tools, data contracts and sandboxed hosts.

Why it matters

It offers another implementation path for tools to return interfaces by placing generation, cached blueprints, host rendering and interaction feedback behind one self-hostable protocol boundary.

A closer look

The official repository provides a CLI, MCP server, protocol types, and React and React Native host helpers, with reusable blueprints for known interfaces. Version 0.28 changes the default generation and evaluator-fallback model to Claude Haiku 5.5, adds runtime exports and returns resources/read as application/json; the release says the wire format is unchanged. Self-hosted paths integrate several agent frameworks, while the hosted path supplies managed generation.

Who this is for

MCP hosts, agent frameworks and generative UI infrastructure teams

A2UI separates model inference syntax from the wire protocol with Express and controlled decisions

On October 27, the Google A2UI team introduced swappable inference formats: a model can emit compact A2UI Express and let the SDK deterministically compile it against a component catalog into standard A2UI messages, while fixed-shape screens can use decision models to select predefined layouts.

GGUI 0.29 tightens cross-user sessions, embed messages and tool-input boundaries

Released October 25, GGUI 0.29 limits callers carrying an end-user identity to their own sessions, accepts pre-handshake iframe messages only from the parent window, requires a per-mount nonce on the React Native bridge, and can reject oversized tool inputs before handlers run.
